This is a 1953 One Dollar Queen Elizabeth, Malaya & British Borneo bank note signed by W.C. Taylor and the printer is Waterlow & Sons Ltd. The size of this bank note is 121m x63mm and dated 21 st March 1953

1959 One Dollar Malaya & British Borneo Bank Note, Thomas De La Rue - kapal layar

  14TH DEC 2012 SOLD TO MR TONY FROM JOHOR, MALAYSIA

This is the 1959 One dollar($1) Malaya & British Borneo Bank note signed by Tun Lee Hau Shik. The size is 121mm x63mm and the printer is Thomas De La Rue. On the front of the note is dated 1st March 1959.

A twelve point star in centre with tiger’s head watermark. A sailing fisherman’s boat on the left. Reverse design fisherman pulling sailing boat ashore and crests of Malaya, Singapore,Brunei,Sabah and Sarawak on top.

The Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya and British Borneo existed from 1 January 1952 to 30 November 1979.
The Malaya & British Borneo Dollar replaced the Malayan Dollar, Sarawak Dollar, and British North Borneo Dollar.
Malaya meant Singapore, Malacca, Penang, and the Federation of Malaya (Perak, Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor).
British Borneo meant Sarawak, Brunei and North Borneo.
The components of Malaya and British Borneo are represented by their emblems on the reverse side of the currency notes.
The Board was the sole currency issuing authority for the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Brunei, British North Borneo and Sarawak for 15 years from 1 January 1952 to 12 June 1967.
British North Borneo the Crown Colony was re-named Sabah when it merged with Sarawak, Singapore, and Malaya to form Malaysia on 31 August 1963.
Singapore was separated from Malaysia on 9 August 1965 and became a sovereign nation of its own.
The value of the Malaya & British Borneo dollar was fixed at one dollar to 2 shillings 4 pence British pound sterling.
On 12 June 1967 Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei ended their currency union and Malaysia issued the Malaysian ringgit, Singapore issued the Singapore dollar and Brunei issued the Brunei dollar to replace the Malaya & British Borneo dollar at par.
In November 1967 the British pound sterling was devalued and the Malaya & British Borneo dollar was consequentially devalued by 15% which reduced its value to 85% of the Malaysian ringgit, the Singapore dollar and the Brunei dollar which were not devalued.
The currency issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency Malaya and British Borneo was in circulation until 16 January 1969.
